Telco Edge Cloud
What is telco edge cloud?
The telco edge cloud is an initiative that promotes a federated solution in which applications and services are executed and processed at a location close to the end user.
Telco Edge Cloud allows service providers to provide high bandwidth at the edge as well as low latency services. Cloud services are running at the edge in a distributed manner by deploying the user or data plane at the edge site while maintaining the control plane in the core data center. Apart from that, workloads and software applications are deployed using a distributed architecture providing users faster speed and higher reliability, giving them better user experience because of the reduced latency.
Advantages of the Telco Edge Cloud
Faster network
As the services are processed and analyzed at the edge location, Telco Edge Cloud makes the latency lower, giving a higher throughput to the end users. This is critical for low latency applications such as online gaming and content delivery.
Reduced network utilization
Less data needs to be transmitted through the network, reducing congestion and traffic.
More differentiated services
Since low latency can be achieved, more services can be offered such as IOT, AR/VR and CDN.
Reduced Costs
As most of the data is processed locally, costs are reduced. The public cloud footprint can be reduced substantially. Operational and maintenance costs are also less by leveraging edge computing.
